I've been imagining him alive lately. Not playing w/ GD. Fans counting days, now in four figures, till next show. The IA threads...

Anyways, a quieter, more musical(!) life. Playing shows w/ JGB and with other combinations. Kahn's replacement is the wild choice of V. Wooten.

No Persian. No buffet consuming days. Surfing and snorkeling about every day he can, which is almost every day on Maui. Healthy.

ahh...wouldn't that be something! Oh well, maybe in another lifetime or in some parallel universe...

Surprisingly, from what I've been told, no one in the band is/was a "Deadhead" with the possible exception of perhaps Skehan. I've always found that a bit surprising, given their ages & apparent taste in music...surely they must have been exposed to the Grateful Dead quite a bit. If so, how could they have NOT turned on??? But that's what I'm told.

And evidently they really don't like be compared to The Grateful Dead, which on the one hand I don't find surprising in that they really don't sound much like them, but on the other hand imho that's about a high a compliment as one could give someone.

a little back-story on the Kalstroms...

The Kalstroms are "old" Deadheads. Phil and Stacy were married at the Greek Theater prior to a Grateful Dead concert on June 20, 1987.

Papa Phil is Railroad Earth's stage manager and Mama Stacy is their merch manager. The joined the RRE crew in 2006.

Papa Phil has been known to occasionally lend back-up vocals for RRE's encore performance of "My Sisters and Brothers".(Floydfest 2007)

Small world. I met Phil and Stacy back in '05 or '06 at a String Cheese Incident show in Camden - RRE opened for the Cheese. Our paths have crossed numerous times since then. RRE at Lincoln Theater in Raleigh, National in Richmond, TLA in Philly, numerous times times at FloydFest and multiple Cheese runs - Winter Carnival in Denver, South Lake Tahoe, Hornings.

Good people. Pass along my best and congrats on their anniversary.
